My pop-up studio was a big hit at this employee event. Battery-powered LED/flash lighting allowed me to set up outdoors.

Events: add a pop-up studio

September 28, 2019 in event photography, corporate photography

Razor-sharp, perfectly-lit, professional photographs of your event’s participants make great souvenirs for them and create a valuable stream of social media content for you.

Modern LED/flash lights are compact enough to be set up anywhere in a matter of minutes, either against a branded backdrop or to take advantage of an attractive or iconic feature in the background.

Last week I ran a ‘red carpet’ pop-up studio at the entrance to a corporate event, and invited each group of arriving guests to make photographs in front of my client’s 2x2-metre roll-up. In just 45 minutes I shot more than 100 guests, singly and in groups of up to four, and delivered selected images within 30 minutes, formatted for social media.

I have also used pop-up studios at employee events. One client provided Mexican-themed accessories to give the pictures a carnival feel. Another chose a plain background so that their staff could use the images for their LinkedIn profiles.

In all cases, the aim should be to produce images that are clearly superior to typical passport shots, both artistically and technically. The key is the photographer’s skill in coaxing each subject to reveal something of their personality in the few seconds available. S/he needs to project confidence and competence, and give clear instructions. Politeness and gentle humour work well.
